Mirth V1.7.1 supports HL7 and DICOM

The open source Mirth 1.7.1 interface engine now includes support for the Digital Imaging in Medicine (DiCOM) standard. Robust support for HL7 V2.x and V3, XML, EDI X12 and NCPDP have been a feature of Mirth in the past but DiCOM support is a natural extension for Mirth to provide system integrators and RIS and PACS vendors with a low-cost interoperability solution.

Check the HL7 Tools page for more details and other tools.

How do HL7ers communicate?

The HL7 community is spread far and wide across the globe. Keeping in touch is not so easy - and can lead to stupendously high phone bills.

For some years now, the free Skype phone service has provided some relief. Most HL7ers use Skype for phone calls and conferences - the built-in "IM Chat" allows communicating across time zones. In recent times, "chat groups" are allowing teams of HL7 Standards developers to continuously keep in touch and weave content threads that allow all participants to track work across continents and time zones.

The Skype User Guide provides an Introduction and helps exploiting Skype's advanced features.
